Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51 million spectators in the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match World Series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
